Maisie and Calvin and I spent the day outside--it was a beautiful day! Maisie swam in her pool a little bit. Calvin was relaxing on a beach towel, until the sun dropped and his shade went away. I got an umbrella to shade him, and Maise was ON him. She wanted that umbrella so badly. I told her to go find her little play one, and she ran into the house to try to find it, but couldn't come up with it. So she came out with another towel. "Put this on him!" Not so into sharing today.

Maisie wanted to help feed Calvin!
I'm so totally frustrated by breastfeeding. It's crazy how something that is supposed to be SO natural can be SO difficult.
Calvin had seemed really hungry, very frequently for several weeks, and his doctor was unimpressed by his weight gain. He is still under the percentiles for children his age--he's created his own percentile--he's gaining and he's gaining steadily, just slowly. So because I feel like Calvin is always always hungry, I wondered if my milk is not giving him what he needs. I don't think he should need to nurse that frequently. So since we've started giving him formula, he seems like a different kid. He's sooo happy! I did have my TSH tested, and I think the results show it's pretty normal--within normal range. So maybe I just make skim milk, and Calvin wants whole. I don't know. It's frustrating. He's still nursing many times a day, but he's also drinking plenty of formula.

Bathtime! Actually, we've taken to giving Calvin showers--he just comes in with whichever one of us is bathing at a convenient time. He quickly grew too long for the sink in our bathroom, and the sink in the main bath is too low and small--it's time to get the sponge with the baby shape cut out of it!
He really relaxes in the shower. He closes his eyes and snuggles in. When I hold him up into the water, he "boiled shrimps" me. Curls up into a ball and closes his eyes, hee! Today after this picture, he decided he was hungry and started HOWLING. I couldn't get out of the shower fast enough!

Ahhhh....sibling love. Calvin sacked out on Greg and Maisie--I caught an ok shot of Calvin, but then Maisie leaned in and gave him a kiss. Sweet.
I have to get these moments on record and write about them, because I'm sure that soon enough we'll be hearing, "HE'S TOUCHING ME!!!!! HE'S ON MY SIDE! HE'S OVER THE LIIIIIIIINE!!! MOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!"
I can't wait.

My mother in law gave me this sunshine. It was on the fence at our house in the Gig. I think those hands are supposed to be for bird seed. *shudders* I do NOT put bird seed in there!!! No sense in attracting MORE of those nasty things. Maisie would share what happened during our lunch picnic the other day....but I won't. He now lives by our back door.

Today's final product. Fancy pants tomato cages filled with Mom's carefully tended tomato plants. Now we just have to figure out how to get water to them!
We are wiped. Grandma Dena came at 10 this morning to sit under Calvin for us--worked like a charm! He was an angel for her--she sat in a lawn chair right by where I was working and Maisie had a blanket down and spent maybe 1/4 of her time there. She did a lot of running around the yard today in the sunshine. While I prepared dinner, she fell asleep on the couch. After Greg and I dined alone we put her to bed. She's gonna be some kind of hungry in the morning!!!

Calvin is 4 months old! (and a little bit)
We nearly had to use the rhinoceros again. I searched the house twice before I found Hobbes. Tossed behind the couch. Good grief. Apparently when I tell Maisie to clean up the living room, she makes a pile behind the couch. Hobbes wasn't alone...

Calvin seems hungry ALL.THE.TIME. I wind up nursing him every hour during the day! Greg decided maybe he should try rice cereal to see if he might stay filled up a little while longer.
It didn't go over well, and we haven't tried again....Thank goodness he sleeps through the night. But during the day he makes up for all the nighttime eating he misses!!!

We are back home. Calvin is eating a lot more, recently. He sleeps through the night, but during the day, he wants to eat very frequently. Greg gave him half a bottle while I was in the shower tonight, and then when I got out, I nursed him for a while. He's been sleeping on my lap ever since. He's such a sweet little bundle--his legs are froggied and his little foot is perched on my lap.
I know he could probably sleep in his very own room in his very own crib. But I guess I'm resisting...I love these cuddles!

We spent Mother's Day in Gig Harbor with Greg's family.
Right before this picture, Maisie asked me where Beeper was...I told her he was probably in his computer room. I told her she should probably go check, and beep him! Apparently she did, because shortly after, he came out and beeped her back. Which is what had happened right before I took this picture. Peals of laughter. :)

It seems that I JUST took this photo--of the tractor driving the other direction than the rows are now! Where does time go? There is already corn growing in this field! The stalks are probably 3 inches tall-kinda hard to see them in this photo. I hope it's sweet corn. Apples on 3 sides and corn across the street? Heaven.

Hey Buddy! Is that a little smile in there? YES! We didn't get too many once we pulled the camera out, but we were getting some during dinner, while he was swinging.
But some of the greatest smiles are followed by blood curdling shrieks and hollers. Diaper changes. Sheesh. You'd think we were using PINS. And missing!

How is it May already?
Today started off pleasant enough. Then it rained. By the time I got home, the rain clouds had blown away, and there was a slight breeze. Maisie got a kite for her birthday, and she'd been dying to try it out! So she and Greg took it out and launched in the back 40. She kept it up for maybe 10 minutes, then held it out to us and said, "Here. I'm done." Hee! This is a horrible picture, but I couldn't very well lay down in the dirt like I needed to. So here I'm going for the basic idea...

Maisie's interpretation of a starfish. In my bed. Early. Notice that I am no longer in it. It's either barnacle or starfish. When Greg is still in bed too, she is barnacled on my back. When Greg gets out, he pulls her off me and then she starfishes. Either way, I crawl out in search of coffee...
